First Night Faculty Gala Planned At Longwood

As the opening event of the 2011-2012 academic year, the Longwood University Department of Music will present a First Night Faculty Gala Recital on Monday, August 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Molnar Recital Hall of the Wygal Music Building. Performers will include the fulltime and adjunct faculty of the department on works from a wide variety of musical styles and time periods.
The fulltime faculty performers will be Charles Kinzer, saxophone; Lisa Kinzer, piano; Jennifer Capaldo, mezzo-soprano; Pamela McDermott, soprano; Christopher Swanson, tenor; and Gordon Ring, piano and composer. Adjunct faculty performing will include Christopher Gassler, trombone; David Niethamer, clarinet; Christopher Thomas, drums; and Christopher Kjorness, double bass, as well as staff accompanist Carole Harper.
“The music faculty want to begin the semester on a strong, positive note, both to set examples for our incoming and returning students and to provide a cultural event for the community to mark the beginning of our year,” said Department of Music chair, Dr. Charles Kinzer. “We invite the students and the public to attend.”
