DILLWYN, Aug. 9 – Bertha Wharam Toney, 75, of Dillwyn, died Thursday, August 4, 2011. Through her journey of life she was a loving caregiver and a mother to all.

She is survived by two sons, Curtis Toney and wife, Sandy, and Mike Toney-Putney all of Arvonia; daughter, Donna Banton and husband, David of Dillwyn; two sisters, Ruby Parker of Whetherford, OK and Ethel Almond and husband, Larry of Arvonia; two brothers, Sammy Wharam of New Canton and J.C. Wharam of Dillwyn; five grandchildren, Marlana Toney (Adam), Chris Toney (Kelly), Clint Toney, Anthony Banton and Amy Grace Banton; great-grandson, Joseph Hillards; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was the widow of Melvin M. Toney and was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 6, at the Dunkum Funeral Home, with interment in the Toney Family Cemetery.
