State DYB Tournaments Begin Saturday

Prince Edward Farmville's Minor League (AAA) All-Stars team and Buckingham's Major League team will begin play in their respective state tournaments this weekend.

Both tournaments are being played at the Botetourt Sports Complex in Troutville. PE Farmville, which won the District V Tournament, will play District VI champion Appomattox at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Buckingham, the No. 3 seed out of District IV, will play District V champion Charlotte County at 8 p.m.

14th-Annual DYB AAA Tournament

Eight teams from the seven districts that comprise Dixie Youth Baseball in Virginia will begin play in the 14th-Annual Virginia Dixie Youth Baseball AAA Tournament.

As stated above, Prince Edward Farmville and Appomattox start things off at 2 p.m.

District III champion Blacksburg will play District VI champ Bedford Eastern at 4 p.m.

At 6 p.m. Carroll County American, the District I champion will play District II titleist Scottsburg. Tournament host Botetourt National will play District IV champion Powhatan American at 8 p.m.

The losers of the Appomattox/Prince Edward Farmville game will play the Blacksburg/Bedford Eastern loser on Sunday at 2 p.m., with the winners of those two games meeting at 6 p.m.

The Carroll County American/Scottsburg loser will meet the Botetourt National/Powhatan loser at 4 p.m., with the winners meeting at 8 p.m.

The double-elimination tournament will run until July 27 or 28.

The champion will advance to the Dixie Youth Baseball Major League World Series, scheduled to begin on Saturday, August 13 in Carthage, North Carolina.

54th-Annual DYB Major League Tournament

Eight teams from just three different districts will participate in the 54th-Annual Virginia Dixie Youth Baseball Major League Tournament. Districts II, IV and V will hold its tournament at the Botetourt Sports Complex, though there will be no host team.

District II third-place finisher Greensville/Emporia will take on District V runners-up Lunenburg at 2 p.m. on Saturday. District IV runners-up Amelia will play District II champion South Hill at 4 p.m.

At 6 p.m. District II champ runners-up Brunswick will play District IV champion Goochland, and wrapping up the first day will be the before-mentioned Charlotte County/Buckingham contest at 8 p.m.

The Emporia/Lunenburg loser will take on the Amelia/South Hill loser at 2 p.m. on Sunday, with the winners of those two games squaring-off at 6 p.m.

The Brunswick/Goochland loser will play the Charlotte/Buckingham loser at 4 p.m. on Sunday, with the winners of those two games playing in Sunday's nightcap at 8 p.m. on Sunday night.

The double-elimination tournament will run until July 27 or 28.
