The spaghetti dinner held at the Farmville Presbyterian Church last Friday night to help raise money for Abby Kelsey was a big success, but what made it very special was when Abby and her mother showed up. She was able to come home for the weekend and hopefully will be able to return home soon.

There was a very nice crowd at the Prospect Fire House last Saturday night enjoying the chicken dinner put on by the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. The food was great, beside the dinner there were prizes given away, with many happy winners. So if you missed this dinner, listen for when the next one comes along and don't miss it.

“The Nerd” is the production of The Waterworks Players right now. If you did not see the play last weekend then you have this weekend to see it, Friday and Saturday June 17 and 18 at 8 p.m.

The Arrington family held their annual reunion this past Sunday at the Pamplin Volunteer Fire Department station. Family members from different parts of Virginia and North Carolina came to enjoy the fellowship of family.

Mr. and Mrs. Don (Betty) Meadows, Mr. and Mrs. George (Shirley) Moore, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Stockton met last Thursday morning at Merk's for fellowship and breakfast.

Darrell Shumaker is spending part of the summer with his grandmother, Peggy Kelsey. They are enjoying the swimming pool at Fuqua School and spending time together.

Mrs. Sadie Kelsey hosted a luncheon on Tuesday for her circle of the Presbyterian Women from the Farmville Presbyterian Church. There were fourteen enjoying lunch and the fellowship which followed during the afternoon.

Thursday, June 2 Gordon presented the Bob Ogle (memorial) Athletic Scholarship to Charlie Richardson, a senior graduating from First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach and headed to UVA. Gordon grew up with Bob Ogle serving as his coach for all of the Lynnhaven League sports he played and the Ogle family is like a second family to Gordon. He was honored to be asked to present the scholarship. SinceGordon's dad resides in Virginia Beach, we stayed there for the weekend so we and the children (Zeb & Evelyn) could visit with their grandfather. On the way home, we stopped in Hampton to enjoy part of the Blackbeard Pirate Festival where we met “Captain Blackbeard!”

John Fulcher a cancer survivor took part in the Relay for Life held in Buckingham on Friday night.

The Senior Adult Class of Glenn Memorial Baptist Church at Prospect met at the Golden Palace on Friday night for dinner after which they attended the Waterworks production of The Nerd. Those enjoying the fellowship were: Mrs. Shirley Mottley, Mrs. Shirley Fulcher, Mrs. Jeannette Tarlton, Mr. Billy Young, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry (Evelyn) Shelton. They report the play was very good and funny.

Mrs. Flora Bolt helped her granddaughter in-law, Melissa Bolt, celebrate her birthday June 12. Her husband, Chris Bolt honored his wife, Melissa, with a cookout and their home on the Back Hampden-Sydney Road. Others present for the celebration were; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark (Rebekah) Pierson from Blacksburg; Chris's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale (Judy) Bolt; Jennifer Bolt; Mrs. Page Johnson; and Katie White. Melissa received some nice gifts. She will be celebrating again on the 14 her birthday. We were all thankful for the rain that came, it was much needed.

Mrs. Ruth Southall was excited to see Mrs. Flora Bolt June 14, when she came to see her at the Woodlands; she asked “Did you bring me something good to eat?” They enjoyed their parfaits from McDonald when they both lived in Cumberland, Flora would pick up Ruth and go to town, grocery shopping and errands, they always went to McDonald for a parfait, a special treat.

Mrs. Flora Bolt attended the family night and funeral at Puckett's for Wilford C. Hedrick of the Woodlands May 31 and the burial June 1 at the Center Presbyterian Church cemetery in Cumberland. Mr. Hedrick and daughter Cindy lived in this area for several years and attended the Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church with his wife, Flora and her family. He will be greatly missed as Mrs. Bolt visited him regularly at the Woodlands. Wilford was a World War II veteran, in the navy, having served in New Guinea. Mr. Hedrick was a member of the V.F.W. organization at Thomas Hardy Graham Post No. 7059 in Farmville. Flora belongs to the Auxiliary. Stacy; Mrs. Kyle (Jeni) Bolt; Garland Woodson; Mrs. John (Lois) Gager; Mrs. Betty Meadows; Mrs. Agnes Loveday; Mrs. Karen Troyer Miller and Ms. Sharon Troyer.

Family, friends and neighbors are sending special get well wishes to all those who are sick at this time. Abby Kelsey and Judy Jamieson are in need of your special prayers.
