CUMBERLAND – As a way to assist with its Summer Reading 2011 program, the Cumberland County Public Schools division is offering several story time events to help students in grades pre-kindergarten through first grade get through those mandatory summer reading lists that were recently sent home.

The program will start this month and run through July.

Summer Story Time, according to information provided by Superintendent Dr. Amy Griffin in her weekly blog, is being offered to the students at different times throughout the two months as a way to help parents get through the summer reading book lists.

The five different story time events are only being offered to those students entering pre-kindergarten through first grade for the 2011-2012 school year.

Books from the program, which was revamped for this summer to encourage a love for reading, will be read to students.

Afterwards, students will participate in activities that will support the book selections.

The Summer Story Time schedule is Wednesday, June 27 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. and then will be offered again the same day from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The next date is Thursday, July 7 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. and then again from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The final opportunity to take advantage of this offering will be on Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

All of the story time events will be held at the Cumberland Elementary School Media Center and students can attend one event or all of them.
