VIRGINIA BEACH, June 7 – Marvel N. Mustard, 96, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Sentara Leigh Hospital. She was born on June 22, 1914 in Keswick, a daughter of the late Tinsley and Bessie Madison Norford.

She attended Albemarle County Public School, Mary Washington University, TCC (AA 1983), Virginia Wesleyan College (BA 1985) and ODU (MA 1987). She was a member of several honorary societies including ODK and Sigma Tau Delta at Virginia Wesleyan and Phi Theta Kappa at TCC. An avid writer, Mrs. Mustard had four books of poetry published.

Mrs. Mustard is survived by her sons, James M. Mustard Jr. (Nancy) of Charlotte, NC and Joseph P. Mustard (Diana) of Virginia Beach; daughters, Elizabeth M. White of Roseland and Kathryn M. Jenkins (Winbern) of Rice; ten grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James M. Mustard.

A graveside service was held on June 1 in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
