“Father Of The Bride” Opens Outdoor Film Series

June. It's perhaps the most popular month to plan a wedding. And with the beginning of the fourteenth season of Stars Under The Stars, it is the perfect month to celebrate the career of Elizabeth Taylor with the showing of Father of the Bride.

Released in 1950, Father of the Bride (not rated) stars Taylor as the soon-to-be bride and Spencer Tracy as her father who must deal with the mixed emotions of watching his little girl prepare for marriage. He also has to deal with the all the associated mayhem that ensues while planning a wedding, including spiraling costs, tough questions about guest lists, last-minute arguments, and so on. It's interesting to see that although over 60 years have passed since Father of the Bride was released, families and couples today face many of the same wedding-related pressures!

Father of the Bride is a charming romantic comedy that features a stunning Taylor, but it is Tracy who carries the show in a lighthearted role that had been rare up until portraying the character of Stanley Banks. The movie was nominated for three Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actor for Tracy. If you've seen the 1991 remake with Steve Martin and Diane Keaton, this is the perfect opportunity to revisit the original, and by many accounts, definitive version.
