The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, in the Circuit Courtroom at the Cumberland Courthouse in Cumberland, Virginia, to conduct a public hearing pursuant to Virginia Code Section 15.2-2204, which such hearing may be continued or adjourned, as required under applicable law, and to consider the following item and taking actions in furtherance thereof:

Code Amendment 11-05- Proposed Amendment to the Code of Cumberland County: The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors will review a proposed amendment to the County Code entitled “An ordinance amending Chapter 74 of the Cumberland County Code amending Section 74-9. Minimum off-street parking, regarding number of parking spaces required per retail floor space in the building.” The proposed amendment would amend the section of the zoning ordinance to increase the amount of retail floor space in a building allowed per parking space and add language to include restaurants and food stores to the ordinance.

The public purpose of the proposed amendments is to better align the ordinance with the parking design of modern retail centers. So that the spirit of the zoning ordinance is achieved, the proposed ordinance amendment would update the parking standards for retail uses permitted in Cumberland County.
