May 12 – “The best prophet of the future is the past.”

Abby Kelsey is doing better each day following her lung transplant. On Monday her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Sadie) Kelsey and brother Nick motored to Duke to pay her a visit. They found her in good spirits, light-hearted and talking about the future.

Mr. and Mrs. Lindy (Wanda) Hamlett enjoyed having all their children, grandchildren and great-grandchild with them on Mother's Day.

Mrs. Peggy Kelsey visited with her son Phil in California and daughter Karen in New Hampshire by way of telephone on Mother's Day, coming for a visit on Sunday was her son Hardy Kelsey and his family and daughter Kim Shumaker and her family.

Frances Southall, daughter Cindy and grandson A.J. all traveled to Kinston, NC, April 28 and returned April 29. The Southalls visited with cousin, Novella Thomas and went to Top Sail Island for a day, where 11 year old A.J. skin boarded for the first time.

Jesse Southall, 15, stayed with his dad, Charles, while the rest of the family went to North Carolina. Despite a broken elbow, Jesse is back to work repairing vehicles.

Miss Payden Baldwin, three years old, and her great-grandmother, Polly Mottley, attended the Children's Story Time May 2 at the Farmville/Prince Edward Community Library. The children's programmer was very honored. Payden's grandmother, Terri Bolt, and the Children's Programmer Cindy Southall, attended high school together.

Jeff Smith traveled to Fredericksburg on Monday to visit his mother, Mrs. Dolores Smith. On Monday Mrs. Pat Smith met her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Keaveny, in Buckingham for lunch.

On Tuesday Charles Smith took his mother, Mrs. Pat Smith out for breakfast at Shoney's for a belated Mother's Day treat.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Stockton enjoyed Mother's Day lunch with their son Lon and his family Mary Jo and Sean.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Joyce) Floyd spent Mother's Day afternoon in Orange with their daughters and their families.

Ashley Fulcher and son Will visited Will's great-grandmother, Mrs. Shirley Fulcher on Monday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. John (Shirley) Fulcher were happy to have some of their children home on Mother's Day.

On Friday Mrs. Betty Meadows and Mrs. Carol Schall spent the day in Richmond and leaving some of their money there on their return home.

Donald Meadows spent Mother's Day with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Don (Betty) Meadows, Mrs. Flora Bolt and Mrs. Nichole Bolt Murdock motored on May 7 to the graduation exercises at Radford University where Mrs. Ashley Bolt Paquett received her Nursing Degree and her Degree in Psychology. Ashley's husband, Spc. David Paquett and her parents, Steve and Terri Bolt went on Friday to attend all the festivities as did her other grandparents, Mrs. Polly Mottley and Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Joyce) McFadden. After the graduation on Saturday they had lunch at a Japanese Steak House in Christiansburg where a Japanese cook cooked their meal at the table on a grill. It was an interesting and experience.

Mrs. Flora Bolt had lunch on Mother's Day at her son's, Douglas and Betty Jean Bolt and Stacey. She received some nice gifts from her children.

Mrs. Jennifer Bolt and son Joshua spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vince (Linda) Eikmeier In Richmond. Vince Eikmeier, Jr. cooked Mother's Day lunch for the folks as his Mother's Day gift for his mother and sister. Joshua always enjoys going places.

Mrs. Deborah Lundeen, Mrs. Flora Bolt and Mrs. Ann Beckham attended the United Daughters of the Confederacy Virginia Division Third District conference held at the Blackstone Herb Cottage on Saturday April 30. They represented the Farmville Chapter No. 45. Mrs. Kathryn Powell of Blackstone and a member of the Farmville Chapter was also in attendance.

Main and High Streets were filled with people and vendors on Saturday for the Heart of Virginia Festival. Among those attending were Mrs. Betty Meadows, Mrs. Lois Gager, Mr. and Mrs. Howard (Linda) Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. John (Judy) Jamieson, Mr. and Mrs. George (Shirley) Moore, Mary Jo Stockton and Sean, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stockton.

Family, friends and neighbors are sending special get well wishes to all those who are sick at this time. Abby Kelsey and Judy Jamieson are in need of your special prayers.

The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary's Annual Spaghetti Supper will be Saturday, May 14, from 5-7 p.m. at the firehouse. The menu will include spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert, tea and lemonade. The cost is a donation. Everyone is invited to attend.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will fill the pulpit.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Robert Hall will fill the pulpit.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Calvary Chapel is holding an Easter service this Wed. evening. Also a communion service on Good Friday and a sunrise service on Easter in addition to the normal Sunday morning service. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
