She Made It!

I guess I knew this day was coming. I don't feel as young as I look and we all know I'm grown up myself. I've got a life of my own now and a little one that seems to act like she knows it all some days even at two and a half.

So, the fact that my little sister is about to take that walk across that big stage shouldn't be that big of a surprise to me this Saturday morning but it is…

She's graduating from college and I'll be there with my camera in hand and you'll probably even catch me standing in my chair waving trying to catch her attention as she walks to her chair and sits in what will look like a sea of mortarboards that are bound for greatness.

To me, it still feels like yesterday (well not yesterday but maybe last year) that I was the one in that seat-probably not her exact same one. She chose a different career path but it's the same school and that will be the same lawn with the same path to travel to receive her handshake and degree.

You see I'll always be the “bigger” sister-the one that had to see to it that she got to her kindergarten classroom each morning that first year of school.

She never was a real big fan of the early mornings or school for that matter and her first year was certainly a real humdinger.

See she cried, pulled and tugged every step of the way to her kindergarten classroom-and I pulled, dragged, and bribed her the whole length of the sidewalk until I finally dropped her off in the safe arms of Mrs. Jennings and then I fled to the other side of the building to the fifth grade.

By the afternoon, she was the first one to the bus and ready to go home and I dreaded the next morning when we'd have to do the “I hate school and you can't make me stay here!” dance all over again.

But see, she made it!

She made it through all of it-even 8 a.m. classes after being up until the crack of dawn studying or writing papers.

And a great job she did.

She's made us all proud…

In the spirit of the graduation season, I offer all the graduates moving on from kindergarten, high school, and college or beyond this…
