PE Wins Southside Girls Soccer Tournament

FARMVILLE – The Prince Edward County High School girls soccer team backed its Southside District Regular-Season Championship up with the SSD Tournament Title last Thursday with a 2-1 victory over Powhatan.

The Lady Eagles battled PHS to a 0-0 tie at the intermission, but in the 47th minute, Lauren Keup scored on an assist from Amie Dews to give PE a 1-0 lead.

Powhatan answered as the match approached the 70-minute mark, but Prince Edward junior forward Katrina Lowe received a pass from Dews with about five minutes remaining to get the game-winning score.

The Lady Eagles were scheduled to host a quarterfinal match against Courtland High School in the Region I Tournament on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

PE Boys Blanked By Indians

POWHATAN – The Prince Edward County High School boys soccer team fell at Powhatan 4-0 in the Southside District Tournament Championship Game.

By virtue of their second place finish in the regular-season and their victory over Park View in the SSD Tournament Semifinals, the Eagles were awarded a spot in the Region I Tournament, and were scheduled to travel to Bay Rivers champion Lafayette High School on Tuesday for a 7:15 p.m. match at Cooley Field.

PE Track Fairs Well At Region I Meet

The Prince Edward County High School track teams placed a number of athletes in the upcoming Virginia High School League Group AA Track Meet with a strong showing last Thursday at the Region I Meet run at York High School.

Brenae Carr placed third in the Triple Jump for the PE girls.

Tyrek Goode was third in the shot put, and Rashaad Walton was fourth in the Long Jump and 200 Meters.

Raheem Nash was sixth in the Triple Jump, and had previously qualified in the Long Jump in a prior meet.

Dante Wardell placed sixth in the 110m Hurdles, and Ralick Lockett had previously qualified for the AA meet in the Long Jump.

The Group AA Meet will be run on Friday and Saturday at Harrisonburg High School.

Briley Wins In Region B Meet

Buckingham County High School qualified for the VHSL Group A State Track meet with a strong showing at the Region B Meet on Thursday at Monticello High School.

Antonn Briley took top honors in the Long Jump with a leap of 22-feet, two-and-one-half-inches. He also qualified in the High Jump with a fifth place finish.

Kendell Randolph qualified for the state meet with a sixth place finish in the Triple Jump.

The 4x100m Relay Team of Kenneth Johnson, Maurice Taylor, Randolph and Briley took fifth place to qualify, and the BCHS Girls 4×100 Relay team finished third to qualify for the Group A Meet.

Cumberland's Antonio Richardson finished fourth in the Long Jump and sixth in the Triple Jump to qualify for the State Meet.

Jermaine Lee will join Richardson after he placed sixth in the 110m High Hurdles.

The Group A State meet will be run on Saturday at Radford University.
