PRINCE EDWARD – John C. Marsden, a local attorney and Prospect resident, will be a candidate for the office of Commonwealth's Attorney for Prince Edward County this November.

Marsden has been in private practice in the Farmville area for the past five years, focusing primarily in the areas of criminal and traffic defense, domestic relations, estate planning, corporate structuring, and property matters.

Marsden currently serves as the Escheator for the 10th Judicial Circuit, appointed to that position by Governor Bob McDonnell in 2010. The 10th Circuit includes Prince Edward County and seven other localities in Southside Virginia. Marsden is also a member and current Secretary of the 10th Circuit Bar Association.

A lifelong resident of Prince Edward County, he attended Prince Edward County Public Schools and was an honors graduate of Prince Edward County High School in 1998. He attended Hampden-Sydney College, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in both History and Political Science in 2002. Marsden received his law degree from the Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, in 2006, and was admitted to the Virginia State Bar that year.

Marsden attends Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Prospect, where he is an Elder and Adult Sunday School Teacher, and currently serves as Clerk of the Session and Chairman of the Worship Committee.

“I want to serve the people. If elected, my door will always be open to all the citizens of Prince Edward County,” Marsden said. “My goal is to provide the fairest, most efficient and effective representation for the Commonwealth and the people possible. I will vigorously prosecute criminals, while always being focused on pursuing equal justice for all.”
