NORTH CAROLINA, May 3 – Elaine Walker Bass, 73, died on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Brian Center Viewmont. Born in Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Warren M. Walker Jr. and Evelyn Addleman Walker Matson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill L. Bass.

Ms. Bass graduated from Cumberland High School, Cumberland, and from James Madison University (then James Madison College). In later years, she graduated as Valedictorian from Catawba Valley Community College, where she had studied accounting. She moved to Hickory from Atlanta and worked as an engineer with Centel for a number of years. She later became a CPA and worked in both public and industrial accounting.

She is survived by her honorary nephew, Christopher R. Hughes and several beloved cats and dogs.

There will be no services held at this time but at a later date there will be a beach gathering at a time and place chosen by her estate administrator, Ray Hughes, at which time her ashes will be cast into the sea.
