VICTORIA – The Buckingham County High School soccer team officially put the wraps on its first-ever James River District title last Thursday with a 7-0 victory over Central of Lunenburg.

The Knights capped a perfect 8-0 run through the district, and received the automatic bid into the Region B Tournament, which is scheduled to begin next week.

In last Thursday's match, Buckingham scored goals in the eighth, 11th, 12th, 17th, 27th, 39th and 44th minutes. Marco Knezivec scored three goals, while Bobby Dandridge and Mike Amos scored two goals apiece.

Buckingham goalie Jason Conway had a relatively easy time in net for the Knights, needing to save just one shot.

For the season, Buckingham's defense has done a good job of protecting Conway. The Knights have allowed just .75 goals per game, while scoring 6.25 goals per game offensively.

The James River District Tournament Championship Game will be played on Thursday. The Buckingham/Central winner will face the winner of the Amelia/Randolph-Henry match at the highest remaining seed.

Should the Lady Eagles win, they will travel to the highest remaining seed for Thursday night's Southside District Tournament Championship Game.

The Buckingham County baseball team earned the No. 3 seed in the James River District Tournament, and was scheduled to travel to No. 2 Amelia on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. Regular-season champion Randolph-Henry was to host No. 4 Central of Lunenburg on Tuesday.

Thursday's championship game will be held at the highest remaining seed at a time still to be determined.
