APRIL 21 – Stanley Jay Titus, 92, died on Friday, April 15, 2011. He was born May 24, 1918 in Glen Cove, NY.

Mr. Titus served throughout World War II, retiring after 28 years of service with the rank of major. He was a lifelong active member of the Farmville United Methodist Church, over 50 years a member of the Masonic Lodge; Independent Order of the Odd Fellows, and the Lions Club. He graduated from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, with a Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture. He retired in 1981 after 30 years of service with Kelly Brothers Nurseries, Dansville, NY, as vice-president.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Helfrich and husband, Jim of Dansville, NY; son, Timothy Jay Titus and wife, Marsha of Cherry Hill, NJ; six grandsons, Ben Titus, Alex Titus, Eric Helfrich, Kyle Helfrich, Cory Helfrich and Tom Page Helfrich; two brothers, Paul E. Titus and wife, Shirley of Houston, TX and Calvin T. Titus and wife, Inge of Hendersonville, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Titus, his companion of 12 years, Elmira M. Chernault of Worsham, and brother, Dr. Preston Titus.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home.
