Knights Remain Strong On Pitch

The Buckingham County High School soccer team went 1-0-1 in James River District play last week, earning a 3-3 tie at Randolph-Henry, and a 7-0 shutout victory over Amelia County High School.

Against Randolph-Henry, Buckingham got goals from Marco Kneczvic, Mikey Amos and Peter Johnson. Randolph-Henry's Ryan Wells scored two goals, while Dillon Webber added one.

Buckingham goalie Jason Conway stopped five shots on goal, while Josh Lacks countered with three saves for the Statesmen.

Things came easier for the Knights in their game with Amelia last Wednesday. The Knights got three goals from Amos, while Bobby Dandridge also scored a hat trick. Johnson added a single goal.

Conway earned his third shutout in goal on the season for the Knights with two saves. ACHS keeper Zach Worrell had four saves on the afternoon.

After Easter Break, Buckingham will resume its schedule with a home match against Randolph-Henry on May 4 at 5:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will have the inside track on the JRD regular-season championship.

BCHS Tennis Edges Randolph-Henry

The Buckingham County High School tennis team picked up a big James River District victory over Randolph-Henry High School last week, with a 5-4 decision over the Lady Statesmen.
<br />Anna Spears won 8-4 at No. 1 singles, with Emily Anderson taking a 1-8 loss at No. 2.

Abby Freed won at No. 3 8-5, and Amy Ragland was defeated 1-8 at No. 4. No. 5 seed Sam VanArsdale won 8-2, and No. 6 Meghan Almond lost 8-9 in a tiebreaker (5-7).

Buckingham (2-3) took two of three doubles matches to record the match victory. Spears/Anderson won 9-8 after winning a tiebreaker 7-2.

Freed/VanArsdale were edged in their doubles match 7-9, but Ragland/Almond clinched the match with an 8-2 victory.

Buckingham will host Randolph-Henry on May 3 at 4:30 p.m.
