Editor, The Herald:

I am writing this letter in regards to the Letter to the Editor of Van Petty in the Friday, March 25, Farmville Herald, about the tax increase and decrease for Cumberland County taxpayers for year 2011-2012.

This is an election year for the Board of Supervisors. This happens in Federal, State and Local government when an election is coming up. The board raised our real estate taxes from 52 to 70 cents, an 18-cents increase, and now they want to reduce the tax by two cents – big deal. He is right it is not “our money” (the supervisors) but the citizens, which in my opinion has been poorly taken care of.

As citizens you can look back and see what has gone on with the landfill that did not open and the school, which put us in debt we may never get out of.

In my opinion, the two cents decrease is just a way to fool citizens to vote for the current supervisors who plan to run in the upcoming election.

So, citizens, when you go to vote in November don't be fooled, make the right decision for the next four years.

I think I am a good caretaker of Cumberland County. I have lived here for 67 years.
