BUCKINGHAM — If you are looking for some delicious desserts and baked goods for your Easter celebrations, then you'll want to head to Dillwyn on Saturday, April 23, for the Super Bake Sale in front of Farmer's Foods. The sale starts at 8 a.m.; and, don't forget, the early bird gets the best baked goods in town.

The Dillwyn contingent of the Buckingham Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring this Super Bake Sale. Proceeds from the sale will be used to help with the on-going efforts to spruce-up the Town of Dillwyn.

Good Friday at First Baptist

First Baptist Church of Dillwyn will host a Good Friday Service at 7 p.m. on April 22.

The service offers a time of worship with emphasis on the Cross.

Pastor Jimmy Dunn and the First Baptist Church family invite you to join with them as they reflect and prepare for Easter Sunday.

Cedar Baptist Church Easter Egg Hunt

According to a reliable source, Peter Cottontail will be leaving a bunny trail of Easter eggs with his friends at Cedar Baptist Church. In turn, the church will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 23, at 11 a.m. and kids of all ages are invited.

Cedar Baptist Church is located at 3932 Bell Road.

Celebrate Cave Week at the Buckingham Public Library

The Buckingham Public Library is celebrating Virginia Caves Week on Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m., and all area children and youth are invited.

This special event will include displays and programming relating to caves and promoting this year's theme Bats in the Web of Life.

There will be a story or two from one of the library's books featuring BATS. And, participants will be guided as they create an origami bat.

Other activities will include coloring pages and a word scramble featuring interesting formations and cave vocabulary relating to the famous Luray Caverns.

Easter Sunday Mass

Nativity Catholic Church will celebrate the Resurrection with Easter Sunday Mass at 8 a.m. After mass, breakfast will be served. The church extends a cordial welcome to anyone who would like to join with them on Easter morning for mass and breakfast.

Located on Route 60 west of Sprouses Corner, Nativity Catholic Church is across the highway from Buckingham County High School.

Easter at Hatcher Baptist

On Easter Sunday, April 24, Hatcher Baptist Church's adult choir will present an Easter musical In the Presence of Jehovah, at the 11 a.m. worship service.

Pastor Cameron Cloud and the Hatcher Baptist Church family welcome you to join with them for this special service of music and praise.

Hatcher Baptist Church is located at the intersection of Route 617, Gravel Hill Road and Route 622, Trents Mill Road.

Mourners Valley Baptist Church

On Easter Sunday, April 24, at 6 a.m., Mourners Valley will host a Sunrise Service with guest preacher Minister Leslie Johnson. Breakfast will be served following the service, which will be the only service held that day.

Mourners Valley Baptist Church is located on Route 20 at 5341 South Constitution Route.

Sunrise at Cedar Baptist

On Easter Sunday, April 24, Cedar Baptist will continue its tradition of hosting an Easter Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m.

After the sunrise service, at approximately 7 a.m., breakfast will be served in the fellowship hall.

The Easter Worship Service will be held at 8 a.m., with the choir presenting the musical Crown Him King. Please note that there will not be an 11 o'clock service.

Sunrise Service in Dillwyn

First Baptist Church, of Dillwyn, is hosting a sunrise service at the Dillwyn Cemetery on Easter Sunday, April 24, at 6:15 a.m.

The Reverend Jimmy Dunn will lead the service, which he says will be short. Everyone is welcome.

Maysville Presbyterian Church

The folks at Maysville Presbyterian Church are starting Easter Sunday with a brunch and egg hunt at 10 a.m.

At 11:15, the worship service will begin with the Flowering of the Cross, a tradition at Maysville that offers everyone an opportunity to bring fresh flowers and/or greenery to place on a cross.

The worship service will include communion and special Easter music.

Pastor Quincy Worthington and the Maysville Presbyterian Church family invite you to fellowship with them at brunch while the youngsters do some serious egg hunting. Then, join with them for worship and praise as they celebrate Easter.

Board of Supervisors Meeting on April 25

The Buckingham County Board of Supervisors meeting scheduled for Monday, April 25, will start at 6 p.m. rather than 7 p.m. as previously reported. Supervisors will consider adopting the proposed FY12 budget. As usual, the meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Agricultural Center, located next to the county administration offices.

Cash Bingo for Toga VFD

Here's a great way to spend a night out during spring break while helping one of our local volunteer fire departments.

The Auxiliary of Toga Volunteer Fire Department is hosting CASH BINGO on Tuesday, April 26. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 7.

Cost is $20 for the packet. And, there will be extra games and 50/50 drawings. Of course, FOOD and beverages will be available, too.

Yard and Bake Sale at Mount Tabor UMC

On Saturday, April 30, beginning at 7 a.m., Mount Tabor United Methodist Church will host a Yard and Bake Sale at the church. Proceeds will be used to help with the church's on-going expenses.

The yard sale inventory includes miscellaneous household items, clothing, and other good stuff.

In conjunction with the sale, there will be breakfast foods and beverages available in the morning; and, hot dogs and beverages for lunch.

Mount Tabor UMC is located on Route 56, James River Highway.

Buckingham County Day

Buckingham County Lions Club is gearing up for Buckingham County Day. Planned for Saturday, May 14, festivities will once again take place at the park-like site adjacent Buckingham Primary School.

This year's theme, Celebrating 250 Years, celebrates and commemorates the county's 250th Anniversary; and, the Lions are working with the county's 250th Anniversary Committee to make this day a very special one.

This year's parade marshal will be Peter Francisco, Buckingham's real-life hero. Francisco will be portrayed by Travis Bowman, an actor and author who is a sixth generation descendant of this famous Revolutionary War soldier.

The Lions are hopeful that area churches, civic and youth organizations, and schools will help celebrate the county's 250th Anniversary with some great floats portraying the county's history and its heroes.

BCHS Class of 1981

Buckingham County High School Class of 1981 is planning its 30th year reunion. Thus far, plans include a social on September 30, following the homecoming game; and, the main event on October 1, at the Train Station in Farmville.

However, at this point, the committee is trying to ensure that all classmates receive information on this special weekend. Golf for Ellis Acres
