On Saturday, April 2, over 200 Hampden-Sydney students will be working on service projects for the College's “Big Event.” Started in 1982 at Texas A&M, the Big Event has spread to campuses across the country. It is now one of the largest student-led service projects in the nation. The purpose of the Big Event is to give back to the community and to thank local residents for their support throughout the year.

Hampden-Sydney students will be doing a wide range of service projects this year, including painting the FACES building, doing deconstruction projects for Habitat, planting gardens with residents of Crossroads Community Services, improving the kennels and trails at the Southside SPCA, working on the Book Drive and building garden beds for the Prince Edward County Elementary School, working on the gardens and landscaping at the YMCA, as well as doing yard work and other projects for residents of Farmville and Prince Edward County.
