CUMBERLAND – The public hearing on the Cumberland County Public Schools 2011-2012 fiscal year budget was rescheduled to March 14 after only two members of the School Board were present for the meeting on Thursday evening.

After School Board member Doris Seal, District Three, opened the meeting, Superintendent Dr. Amy Griffin announced that because there was not enough members present the public hearing would be rescheduled for the Board's regular meeting on Monday, March 14 at 7 p.m.

George Reid Jr., District Four, was also present.

Three members constitutes a quorum and two was not enough to conduct business Dr. Griffin announced to those in attendance that the meeting would adjourn but that an “informal” session would be held down below the stage to accommodate those citizens that had traveled and signed up to speak about the proposed budget.

Because the public hearing was rescheduled, the Board's approval of the budget will also have to be postponed because it was originally slated for approval on March 14.

Another meeting date will be set and advertised for the approval of the school division's budget, said Dr. Griffin, so that it can be sent to the County's Board of Supervisors for consideration.
