Arbor Day Photo Contest Accepting Entries

The Town of Farmville's Tree Board has is now accepting entries for the 2011 Arbor Day Photo contest. The photo contest, now in its third year, is part of the 2011 celebration of Arbor Day, planned annually by Farmville's Tree Board.

All photos should feature trees in the background, foreground or as the main subject. One photo per person may be submitted. All photos must have been taken after January 1, 2009. Entries may be submitted by E-MAIL (preferred method), mail, or in person. Official entry form and contest rules can be found on the Town of Farmville web site: www.farmvilleva.com/

The entry deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15. Winners will be notified before April 29 so they can attend the Award Ceremony on Saturday, May 7 (as part of the Heart of Virginia Festival in Farmville). The contest has five categories: Elementary School Students, Middle School Students, High School Students, College Students (full time students), and Adult Category. The contest is open to everyone living in Farmville, Prince Edward County, or any county that touches Prince Edward County (Cumberland, Amelia, Nottoway, Lunenburg, Charlotte, Appomattox and Buckingham). Only the judges and members of the Town of Farmville Tree Board are ineligible. Up to three prizes will be awarded in each category.

This contest is part of the Town of Farmville's ongoing commitment to be a “Tree City USA” and raise awareness about the benefits trees give to our community. Farmville's Arbor Day partners include the Virginia Department of Forestry and the Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners.
