A Little Spring Fever

Published 3:54 pm Thursday, March 31, 2011

All right, Mother Nature and Old Man Winter, quit your fussing-but then again, that's just a little more March madness for ya, I guess.

But, Friday is April 1…and no, I'm not foolin'!

So my wish is that you'd both stop your squabbling and just get along.

See, Old Man Winter, just take a rest for a few months (I know you're tired, it's been a long one) and let the sun start shining those warm rays and let the flowers and trees keep on blooming.

I've had enough.

My two-year-old doesn't understand that one day it can be 70 degrees and two days later there could be snow on the deck like we awoke to this past weekend.

So enough is enough already.

Like I said, I've had my fill.

If the little one is denied being able to go outside no one is happy in our little house on top of our windy hill.

And I'm over those grumpy, cold, winter days. Spring is here and so let it start feeling that way.

When the little one wants to go out and ride her tractor and I have to explain (which takes almost 15 minutes) that it's colder than the day before when she was wearing her crocs, sweatpants, and a t-shirt in the yard it causes a meltdown.

I'm talking the kind of meltdown that could cause ava-lanches or glaciers to start thawing.

See, she doesn't care about global warming.

And trying to explain to her that spring is really here but that this time of year is still a little “wishy-washy” (temperamen-tal) doesn't really get me very far in her weather book.

She just knows that if I let her go outside one day she thinks she can continue going out day after day AND that's not the case!

So here's my request on this April Fools Day. Let this first day of April be the first of many months worth of warmer days that can be spent outside until bath time.

Thanks.

That's all I'm asking…

For my sanity and for the sanity of all the rest of the moms and dads who are kind of obsessed over things like that and don't let their kids go outside to play for any lengthy time unless it's above 60 degrees (and if the wind is blowing she knows she still has to wear a hat).

Yep, that's me…

We're just ready to go out and play.

Really. Ready.

We might still wear our hats but we've certainly caught the fever…the spring fever that is!

“It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want – oh you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” -Mark Twain
