FEBRUARY 3 – William W. Bell, 90, of Farmville, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at his niece's home surrounded by family, caregivers and beloved pets. He was born in Prince Edward County March 18, 1920 to Robert Grey Bell and Beulah Layne Bell. He served in the Army from 1942 until 1946 in North Africa.
He was office manager and estimator for Mottley Construction Company for 22 years, then with Bridgeforth Construction Company for 11 years, retiring January 1, 1983.
Mr. Bell was a member of the Odd Fellows, V.F.W., and Farmville Presbyterian Church of which he was treasurer for 17 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Frances G. Bell and Ruth H. Bell, one stillborn son, and his beloved pet, Princess.
He is survived by a large extended family including Barbara Y. Anderson and family of Farmville, numerous nieces and nephews and beloved pets, Lucy B. and Autumn B.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, February 4, in the Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home. Interment will follow with military honors in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Farmville Presbyterian Church, Douglas Presbyterian Church, Meherrin SPCA or other local charity.
