Region Tournaments Begin

Several area teams have advanced to their respective postseason tournaments, however, all will have to board a bus for their respective quarterfinal appearances.

For most, however, the road will be a familiar one, as they will play at in-district foes.

Boys

The Prince Edward County High School boys basketball team enters the Region I, Division 3 Tournament as the No. 6 seed, and will hit the road to face No. 3 Southampton on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m., which finished as the runner-up in the Southside District.

In other contests, Southside District champion Brunswick hosts No. 8 seed New Kent, while No. 2 Culpepper hosts No. 7 Bruton and No. 4 Park View hosts No. 5 James Monroe.

Girls

The Prince Edward County Girls basketball team enters the Region I, Division 3 Tournament as the No. 5 seed, and will also face a familiar opponent on Tuesday night, as the Eagles travel to Emporia to play Greensville County at 7 p.m.

Southampton garnered the No. 1 seed, and will host Southside District foe Bluestone (No. 8), while No. 2 Brunswick County hosts No. 7 Warhill, and No. 3 Bruton hosts No. 7 James Monroe.

James River District

Boys

The Buckingham County High School boys basketball team will begin defense of its 2010 Region B, Division 2 title on Wednesday night, but will have to go on the road to do so.

The Knights, who lost in the James River District Tournament semifinals at home to Randolph-Henry last Wednesday, will get a shot at revenge seven days later in Charlotte Court House.

The No. 4 Statesmen and Knights will meet for the fourth time this season at 7 p.m.

No. 1 Dan River will host No. 8 Chatham, while No. 2 Clarke County hosts No. 6 Central of Woodstock, and No. 3 George Mason hosts No. 6 Appomattox.

The Tournament semifinals will be held on Friday night at a pre-determined neutral site, to be played close to the higher seed.

The Region B, Division I Championship game will be played on Saturday at Eastern Mennonite University.

Girls

Cumberland begins play in the Region B, Division 1 Tournament as the No. 7 seed, and will travel to No. 2 Luray on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Amelia County, the James River District Regular-Season and Tournament Champions, will host No. 8 Nelson County, while No. 3 Altavista will host No. 6 Madison County and No. 4 Buffalo Gap will host No. 5 Page County.

Cumberland's Girls team begins play in the Region B, Division 1 Tournament as the No. 8 seed, and will travel to No. 1 Altavista at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.

No. 2 Central of Lunenburg, the James River District's Regular-Season champ, will host No. 7 Luray, while No. 3 Page County will host No. 6 William Campbell, and No. 4 Riverheads will host No. 5 Amelia County.

In Division 2, No. 1 George Mason will host No. 8 Strasburg, while No. 2 East Rockingham will host No. 7 Appomattox, No. 3 Gretna hosts No. 6 Dan River, and No. 4 Randolph-Henry, which won the JRD Tournament Championship last Friday over Central of Lunenburg hosts No. 5 Clarke County.
