Planners To Review RA-1

CUMBERLAND – County Planners will begin the discussion related to Cumberland's recreational area access zoning district on Monday, January 3. The meeting was originally scheduled for December 13 but due to inclement weather was rescheduled for the Commission's first meeting of 2011.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and the purpose is to review the directive that was sent to the Commission from the Cumberland Board of Supervisors earlier about comprehensively studying the RA-1 zoning district.
Many citizens near the current RA-1 zoning district in the Trents Mill area raised concerns about a zoning change that was proposed and adopted as part of an application submitted by the County's IDA for the purpose of constructing a business park on Poorhouse Road.
Those opinions were voiced during a public hearing in November.
The original RA-1 zoning district had been part of the County's zoning for 40 years.
According to comments made earlier by the Planning and Zoning Administrator, Andrew Sorrell, the meeting is just the beginning of the process. The Planners are expected to create a plan of action related to conducting the review.
Sorrell said the Planners would be discussing a “possible plan of action for addressing the Board's request for the Commission to review the district.”
The actual review process will not begin during the first meeting, he said, but the Planners will be deciding on a plan as to how the Commission will tackle the request within the 90-day time-frame allocated by the Board.
During the meeting, the Planners will also review the status of the proposed subdivision ordinance amendments and corresponding zoning amendments.
The meeting will be held in Room 8, Building C, of the Cumberland Community Center (formerly known as the Cumberland County Middle School).
