MARION, Dec. 14 – Lillian Aker Helton, 91, died Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville. She was born January 21, 1919 in Smyth County to the late William and Maude Peake Aker. Mammaw, as she was lovingly called, loved the Lord and lived with His direction every day. She loved her church family (wherever she was) and her neighbors and friends. She was blessed to have a wonderful Hospice family as well who took very good care of her during her illness.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Vincent Helton, and her son, Claude Eugene Helton.

She is survived by a daughter, Rita Helton Shippee and husband, Steve of Scottsville; daughter-in-law, Miriam B. Helton of Asheville, NC; seven grandchildren, Vincent Helton and wife, Denise, Andrew Helton and wife, Stephanie, Joshua Helton and wife, Leah all of Asheville, NC, Elizabeth Preston and husband, Justin of Quarryville, PA, Eric Shippee and wife, Brooke of Laurinburg, North Carolina, Scot Shippee and wife, Kelly of Lynchburg, and Karen England and husband, Timothy of Dillwyn; 17 great-grandchildren, Evey Helton, Jodi Helton, Brock Helton, Briar Helton, Byron Helton, Zeb Helton, Lila Helton, Ava Helton, Adaya Helton, and Adalin Helton all of Asheville, NC, Kairi Preston of Quarryville, PA, Nathan Shippee, Jacob Shippee, and Faith Shippee all of Lynchburg, Jason Shippee and Abigail Shippee both of Laurinburg, NC, and Amy England of Dillwyn; several nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 16 at 2 p.m. at the Marion Baptist Church, Marion, with her grandson, the Rev. Joshua Helton, the Rev. Charles Phillips of Asheville, NC, and the Rev. Perry Clore of Scottsville, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Private burial will be held in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion.
