BUCKINGHAM – The Children's Mission Group at Mt. Zion Baptist Church is having a Brunswick Stew on Saturday, December 11, at 4 p.m. Stew will be available for carryout, dine-in, or both.
Along with the great stew, there will be a movie, too. At 6 p.m., the movie, The Christmas Hope, will be shown.

The Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual Christmas Dance on Saturday, December 11, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., at the Dillwyn Fire House, on Route 15.
Music will be by Ten Spot, the band that played at last year's dance.
Admission is a donation of $20 for singles and $30 for couples.
Melissa Louis will be hosting an open house at The Spa on Sunday, December 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. The open house will include a book signing of The Keeper of the Tree by author Francis Wood and illustrator Martha Louis.
The Spa is located at 794 Main Street, in the residential area of Dillwyn.
The Buckingham County Community Choir will present a Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 12, at 4 p.m., at New Store Baptist Church. Everyone is invited.
Salem United Methodist Church will present a cantata, A Christmas Story, on Sunday, December 12, at 7 p.m. Following the musical presentation, refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall.
Pastor Billy Swan and the Salem UMC family invite everyone to join with them for this special evening.

Ever thought about bee keeping? If so, here's a great opportunity to learn the basics, determine whether it is something you'd like to try, and how to get ready for your first hive.
Virginia Cooperative Extension is hosting this series of bee keeping seminars. The first informational, hands-on program will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 6:30 p.m., at the Buckingham Extension office, which is located in the Agricultural Center next to the county administration building.
Participants will learn about basic bee keeping equipment and terminology; the colony; and basic “how to” hive inspections.
The series will continue on January 12, February 16, and a final program sometime before the second week in April but no earlier than the end of March, which is usually about the time the first packages arrive.
Bee keeping manuals will be available at the program for $5 each.

First Baptist Church, of Dillwyn, is celebrating the birth of Christ with a Christmas cantata, O Holy Night. Two performances are planned, the first is on Friday, December 17, at 7 p.m. The cantata will also be presented on Sunday, December 19, at 11 a.m.
On Sunday, December 19, at 7 p.m., the children and youth of First Baptist will offer a very special gift as they present Camel Lot, a Christmas play.
Light refreshments will be served after Friday night's performance and on Sunday night after the play.
Everyone is invited.
The Town of Dillwyn is hosting its annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 18, at 10 a.m.

Following the parade, Santa Claus will visit with children of all ages at his temporary headquarters in the Dillwyn Town Hall.
Along with Santa, Straight Street volunteers will be at the Town Hall hosting a Santa's Workshop for the kids.
Two one-day 4-H workshops will be offered during winter break for youth ages five to 13.
Vonett Jones, 4-H program technician and 4-H volunteers will offer programs that promise to be rewarding and fun.
The programs will be held at the Buckingham Agricultural Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, December 21 and December 28. Participants are asked to bring their lunch.
On December 21, the workshop focuses on creating Christmas gifts. Crafts will include calendars, bell ornaments, candy gifts, a cooking craft and a leather craft. There will also be games and other activities. Cost is $10.
An End of Year PARTY Egyptian Style is planned for the December 28 workshop. Participants will travel back in time to ancient Egypt in search of treasures. The day will include exploring Egypt via games, treasure hunts, crafts and even a little dancing. Cost is $5.
