The staff and volunteers of Appomattox Court House National Historical Park announce the 2010 Holiday Open House at the park's historic village. Scheduled for Sunday, December 12, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event will include activities designed to enhance the experience of the historic holiday season for this season's guests. All park entry fees will be waived as the visitor center doors open to welcome local citizenry to festivities celebrating the season.
In addition to refreshments, including hot cider, cake, cookies, and more, this year the Open House entertainment will include carolers in period costume, a roving musician, and harpists, all performing seasonal songs of 1865. A special ornament making activity will be provided for children within one of the historic buildings. Festive lights and decorations will reflect the warmth of the season and the appreciation of the National Park Service for the support they receive throughout the year from their neighbors around Appomattox.
Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is located on Highway 24, three miles from Appomattox. The park is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Entrance fees are waived for the event. Specific questions about the event should be directed to visitor center staff at 434-352-8987 ext. 26.
