CUMBERLAND, Nov. 11 – William Morgan “Bill” Smith II, 64, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010, in Charlottesville.

He was the son of Barbara Hope Almond Smith of Cumberland and the late Meriwether Vaughan Smith. He was the former editor of The Cumberland Bulletin newspaper and executive director of Central Piedmont Action Council.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, Meriwether Vaughan Smith Jr. of Cumberland; three children, Kathryn Smith Hopgood and husband, Adam of Seoul, South Korea; Elizabeth Meriwether Riddick and husband, Phesanton of Virginia Beach; William Morgan Smith III of Farmville; and a granddaughter, Eva Fontaine Hopgood.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 13, at Johns Memorial Episcopal Church, Farmville. A graveside committal service will follow at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, Ca Ira.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Friday, November 12, at the Parish House of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church.

Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church for property maintenance or to John's Memorial Episcopal Church for the music program.
