Mr. and Mrs. Michael Huie, of Fredericksburg, announce the engagement of their daughter, Beatrice Catherine Huie, to David Heath Gates Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. David Heath Gates, of Prince Edward. Mr. Gates is grandson to the Honorable Ernest Gates and Mrs. Gates, of Chesterfield.

Miss Huie, a graduate of Longwood University, is an interior designer with Turn Key Interiors in Powhatan. Mr. Gates was graduated from Hampden-Sydney College. He received his J.D. degree from Regent University School of Law. He is an associate with CowanGates of Richmond.

An October wedding is planned.
