November 4 – Now that Halloween is over it is time to turn our attention to the upcoming holidays. After all, Thanksgiving is less than three weeks away.

What better way to kick off your Thanksgiving festivities than to attend the Beulah United Methodist Women Annual Turkey Supper. It will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Abilene Community Center. Take-out will be available from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sit-down dinner will be 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The price is $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. The regular monthly meeting of the Abilene Community Club will include a covered-dish dinner at the Abilene Community Center on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. There will be a drawing for a membership card for the 2011 Club year. Everyone is invited to attend.

As part of the community outreach mission of the Abilene Homemakers Club, on Oct. 28, I delivered 25 white terry bibs to the residents of the Windsor Gardens assisted living facility in Keysville.

Also, on Oct. 28, I delivered Halloween goodie bags to the children at the Piedmont Juvenile Detention Facility.

On Oct. 30, the Abilene Homemakers Club held a very successful Bake and Craft Sale at the Abilene Junction General Store. At 3 p.m., we held the drawing for the quilt raffle and Shyrl Marston was the winner of the quilt. Congratulations Shyrl! I would like to thank everyone in the Abilene community who came out to support us.

A reminder: Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, so don't forget to reset your clocks before you go to bed Saturday evening.

Also a reminder that Thursday, Nov. 11, is Veteran's Day. Take a moment and remember those men and women – past and present – who serve our country and defend our freedoms.

Happy Birthday greetings go out to Violet Thackston who will be 91 years young on Nov. 6; to Carl Crigger who will be celebrating on Nov. 10; and Stephen Nelson on Nov. 12.
