The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department thanks those of the community for their support at the Harvest Sale last Saturday.

The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating its 50th year of serving the Prospect and surrounding communities. They will be celebrating October 17 with activities for everyone. There will be a Parade of Fire Trucks at 2 p.m. through Prospect followed by an Open House at the Fire Department from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be good food and a 50/50 drawing, prizes for children, tour of the fire trucks and Fire Department. Darren the Lion and Smokey the Bear will be on hand. Come out and have a great time. This is your opportunity to say thanks to the members of the Fire Department for all they do for you.

Mrs. Sally Mottley's children were visiting her over the weekend. They attended the funeral of Marian Hamlet.

Mrs. Shirley Fulcher started her birthday out right on Oct. 5 with breakfast out with Judy Mottley followed by shopping and then the two of them had lunch at Applebee's.

Greg Fulcher treated his mother Shirley to a birthday dinner at the Golden Palace.

Mrs. Flora Bolt and Mrs. Marie Self motored to Charlottesville Oct. 5 where Mrs. Bolt had a doctor's appointment. They came back through Fork Union where they enjoyed a delicious meal at the Village Restaurant.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Rose) Mottley, of Louisiana are visiting family and friends in the area this week.

Breakfast time is always good, but even better when shared with friends. On Monday Mr. and Mrs. Scott (Hilda) Friend, Mr. and Mrs. George (Shirley) Moore Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Don (Betty) Meadows, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Stockton met at Merk's Place for breakfast and fellowship.

Mrs. Flora Bolt was still celebrating her birthday on Sunday when she was treated to lunch by her brother Garland Woodson, at Shoney's.

Mrs. Flora Bolt visited Mrs. Edna Woodson at Trinity Mission on Sunday afternoon as did Mrs. Woodson's husband, William. Mrs. Woodson also visited Charles Southall Jr. at Trinity Mission on Sunday.

Family, friends and neighbors are sending special get well wishes to all those who are sick at this time. Special prayers are needed for Betty Noblin, Barbara Metcalf, Ray Kelsey, Mary Lula Allen and Mary Overton.

Mrs. Flora Bolt and son Dale traveled to Williamsburg Sept. 29 for the funeral of Thomas Oliver Thompson Jr., age 58, affectingly know as “TO.” Thomas is the son of Jean Woodson Thompson Jaynes. Jean is the sister of Mrs. Flora Bolt, Garland Woodson, of Farmville, and the Rev. Robert Woodson, of Culpepper. Jean is formally of Farmville but has lived in Williamsburg for 50 plus years. Mrs. Bolt has fond memories of Thomas, Jr as she called him as a little boy growing up with her boys. Thomas leaves a wife of 40 years, two daughters, and two grandsons. Also attending the funeral were Garland Woodson, Douglas and Steve Bolt, John Wallace Woodson of Henrico, Jim and Gary Woodson, of Standardsville, and the Rev. Carl Hrebic, of Orange.

Friends and neighbors are expressing their sincere sympathy to the families of Marian Hamlet, of Darlington Heights, and Edward Russell Blackburn, of Pamplin.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will be with them this Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. William “Bill” Clark will be in the pulpit this Sunday.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Rd in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
