With colorful cut-paper banners strung from the ceiling and mariachi music playing on the stereo, the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts transports families from Farmville to Mexico for one art-filled morning. On Saturday, October 23, from 10 a.m. through 12 noon, the art center hosts its annual Dia de los Muertos: Celebration of Life workshop, with Mexican fun, food, and fantastico art activities! The event is free and open to the public; children must be accompanied by an adult.
Celebrated around the world, the Dia de los Muertos honors the lives of our loved ones, past and present. The holiday also provides opportunities for kids to make maracas, create paper flowers, carve jack o'lanterns, and more! With the exception of pumpkins, the LCVA will supply everything you'll need, from snacks to supplies to assistants.
Mexico's Celebration of Life is part of a series of free family workshops offered by the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts. Workshops are designed to bring the family together in an enriching and creative environment to celebrate annual events throughout the year.
The LCVA is located at 129 North Main Street in Farmville. Admission is free and open to the public. For further information on this or other programs and events, call the LCVA at 434-395-2206.
