CUMBERLAND – The DMV Select, located in the Cumberland County Commission of Revenue's Office, has been open for two and a half years and is busy each day with transactions.
Although the office stays busy with this addition, Commission of Revenue Anita French says that is has been a great service to the community.
She reports that everyone has expressed overwhelming gratitude and support for this new service in Cumberland. People find it is very convenient to take care of DMV business in the Commissioner's office and appreciate the staff's personal attention to their needs, states a press release received by The Herald.
Since opening the office in May 2008, staff has processed over 13,900 transactions, as well as helping over 2,200 people with DMV questions and problems.
“Since Cumberland County's population is only 9,996 this is a lot of transactions,” according to the release. “People come from all over to transact business in Cumberland. Some have even reported that they would rather drive all the way to Cumberland from Richmond to conduct their DMV business because of the high quality of customer service.”
The main types of transactions that are conducted at the DMV Select are titles and registrations, with registration renewals being a big part of the office's business. But people can also surrender tags, process vehicle and customer transcripts, overload permits, trip permits, and handicap placards.
The main thing that people cannot do at a DMV Select is process driver's licenses or ID cards.
The DMV office hours in Cumberland are 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The telephone number to call with any questions about a specific transaction is (804) 492-7100. Also, customers who renew their decals at a DMV Select location are not required to pay the $5 statutory fee that is charged in full-service DMV customer service centers.
