CARTERSVILLE, Oct. 21 – Bert Samuel Robinson, 89, of Cartersville, passed away Tuesday morning, October 19, 2010 at his son's home in South Carolina.
A native of Mountain City, Tennessee, he was born October 3, 1921 to the late William H. and Mary Alice Stout Robinson. He moved to Cartersville in 1948 where he was a farmer and an employee of Cumberland County.
Bert served as a resource office in Cumberland County for many years and was also responsible for designing and maintaining the county landfill system. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in five theaters and was awarded several distinguished medals. He was a charter member of the Ruritan Club in Cartersville and was active until he was no longer able to attend.
In his later years, his love of farming and cattle became his exclusive hobby. Finally his bout with Alzheimer's rendered him unable to continue and commanded his move to a nursing home in 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Mary G. Robinson; three sons, Harold Dale Robinson of Pamplin, Clark M. Robinson of Travelers Rest, SC, and Mack H. Robinson of Cartersville; a daughter, Alice Mae Robinson Burks of Farmville; ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 23, in Cartersville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
