On Tuesday and Wednesday, September 21-22, Hampden-Sydney College will host the symposium, The Forgotten War: 60th Anniversary of the Korean War.

There are two events on Tuesday, September 21: 4 p.m. – Panel Discussion: “Context and Setting of the Korean War,” with Dr. Caroline Emmons, H-SC Associate Professor of History; Dr. Eric Dinmore, H-SC Associate Professor of History; and Dr. Roger Barrus, H-SC Elliott Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs; 7:30 p.m. – Lecture: The Korean War,” by Dr. Charles P. Neimeyer.

Neimeyer, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.) is currently the director and Chief of Marine Corps History at Marine Corps University, Quantico. Prior to taking this post in December 2006, he was Dean of Academics and Forrest Sherman Chair of Public Diplomacy at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. From 1997-2002, he worked as a full-time professor of National Security Affairs at the institution.

On Wednesday, September 22, the concluding presentation: 7:30 p.m. – Panel Discussion: “North Korea Today.” With Kay Kizo Hiramine, Jr. and Lt. Gen (ret.) William Boykin, H-SC Wheat Visiting Professor in Leadership, The Wilson Center.

Hiramine is co-founder of the Humanitarian International Services Group (HISG) located in Castle Rock, CO. He was born into a first generation Japanese-American home. He graduated in 1986 from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA, and has an International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance (IDHA) from the University of Geneva. Hiramine has worked with NGOs, IOs, government officials, business leaders, and faith-based groups in humanitarian activities around the world.
