DANVILLE, Sept. 30 – Elsie Murphy Woodall, of Danville, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home. Born in Danville, on March 28, 1923, she was the daughter of Willie E. Murphy and Doris Knowles Murphy.

She was retired from Sears Roebuck Company where she worked in the auditing department for 45 years. She was a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church and served as treasurer for years.

Mrs. Woodall was known as “Grandma Elsie” by her grandchildren and was a devoted and loving, wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She was an avid gardener and loved growing and nurturing plants in her home and her greenhouse. She enjoyed bridge, and enjoyed and participated regularly in the Sears Retiree Club.

She is survived by two children, a son, Jerry Woodall and wife, Rose of Yanceyville, NC and a daughter, Jan Rogers and husband, Chris of Farmville; brother, James Murphy and wife, Merle; four grandsons, Bruce Woodall, Jason Woodall, Thomas Rogers, and Joe Rogers; special friend, Hattie Wilson; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Jesse Thomas Woodall, two brothers, Vernon Murphy and Willie E. Murphy Jr., her parents and her mother-in-law, Lessie Woodall.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, October 1, at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Tim Earnhardt officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home, on Thursday (today) from 7- 8:30 p.m.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church, 601 Berryman Avenue, Danville, VA 24541.
