A Labor Day Tradition

Three generations of Simpson's stand ready to harvest a mature crop of tobacco: Averette Simpson, David Simpson, Marshall Simpson, and Derek Simpson. “I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be on earth on Labor Day than in the tobacco field,” said David Simpson. “There is nothing like a good sweat to do you some good, and it doesn't cost us anything but time. It's good to remember where you started and where you came from. Making money is not easy, but if you work it will pay off. The Bible says idle hands are the devil's work tools. God tells us to work. Daddy taught us to work, and this is my way of honoring God by honoring my dad.” Marshall A. Simpson represents the fourth generation of Simpson Tobacco Farming in Prince Edward County.
