W. T. “Billy” Godsey, 82 US Army Veteran Dies August 15

DILLWYN, Aug. 18 – W. T. (Billy) Godsey, 82, of Dillwyn, husband of Shirley A. Godsey, passed away at his home Saturday, August 15, 2009. Born May 19, 1927 to John Renny and Arvertice Godsey, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ernest and Johnny Godsey and two sisters, Sally Taylor and Callie Banton.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a daughter, Patsy G. Allen and husband, Charles Allen; two grandsons, Marty Allen and Brad Allen and wife, Amanda; three great-grandsons, Lance, Preston, and Camden Allen; a sister, Lou Brownlee; a devoted sister-in-law, Jennie Shumaker, all of Dillwyn, and many nieces and nephews.

He was a faithful lifetime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served as trustee, deacon, and Sunday School director, among many other areas. He retired from Virginia Department of Transportation but continued working at different jobs including many years at Buckingham Farm Supply, until his recent illness. He was also a veteran of the US Army.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday (today) at Bethlehem Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
