“Pete” Smith, 50

RICE, July 8 – Peter “Pete” Jeffrey Smith, 50, of Rice, passed away Sunday at his residence. He was born May 14, 1958 in Teaneck, NJ. He was the son of Jacqueline M. Smith and the late David Smith. He was the husband of Maureen “Mo” E. Shaw Smith. Pete and “Mo” loved helping animals; Pete was a huge animal lover and was a friend to all animals.
He is survived by his mother, his wife, his brother, David Smith of Peachum, Vermont; sisters, Cynthia Smith Goddard and husband, Dale of Middle-berry, VT, and Debra De-Voursney and husband, William of Summertown, TN; his mother-in-law, Lucille Blackman of Rice; brothers-in-law, Timothy Shaw and Jammie Shaw both of Rice and Pat Shaw of Georgia; sisters-in-law, Kathy Shaw of Rice, Kathy Swanson of Front Royal, and Barbara Shaw of Georgia; nieces, Amanda Lu Shaw and Amy Lynn Gant and husband, John; great nieces, Hayley and Kirsten Gant, and many more nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother-in-law, Tommy Shaw.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church.
Family will receive friends Tuesday evening 7-8:30 p.m. at the Puckett Funeral Home.
