Lynwood G. Smith, 80 Local Merchant And Electrician, Dies

JANUARY 20 – Lynwood Gordon Smith, of Farmvllle, died Saturday, January 17, 2004 at his residence.
He was born July 4, 1923 and was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Smith of Amherst and Lewis Hartwell Smith of Farmville and two sisters, Christine Fitzgerald of Farmville and Claudia Scott of Lynchburg.
Mr. Smith and two of his brothers established and operated Smitty Brothers Electric Company for over 35 years on Main Street, as a merchant and electrician. He was In the Lions Club for many years and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 2000. He was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church where he served as deacon and trustee. He served as a technical sergeant In the Medical Corp as an x-ray technician at Fort McClellan, Alabama during World War II. He was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy V. Smith; a brother, Thomas Winfred Smith of Farmvllle; two sisters, Ruby Irving Smith and Virginia Jones both of Lynchburg; one daughter, Vicky S. Burnette; two sons, Gordon V. Smith and Stanley R. Smith; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday at Heritage Baptist Church with interment in Westvlew Cemetery, Farmvllle.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Farmvllle Lions Club.
Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, was in charge of arrangements.
