Lealon “L.G.” Vassar, 88

CHARLOTTE CH, April 1 -Lealon Godrey “L.G.” Vassar, 88, of Charlotte Court House, died peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2008. He was born October 30, 1919 in Charlotte Court House at home to John L. and Lucy Baker Vassar. Along with his parents, his beloved wife, Elizabeth Ruth “Betty” Zabriskie Vassar, and eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son, Lealon M. Vassar and wife, Brenda of Charlotte Court House; daughter, Faith V. Shore and husband, Forrest of Randalman, NC; sisters, Rose V. Brehm of Richmond and Lula V. Walker of Charlotte Court House; brother, Barry D. Vassar of Richmond, and many nieces and nephews. He was the treasured “Papa” and “Big Papa” to nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and so many others in the community that thought of him in that way.

A welder in the shipyards in Norfolk for the war effort, a mill supervisor and leader in the wood business, he loved his music, church, golf, watching local kids play baseball, and spending time with his family.

He was a member of Charlotte Court House United Methodist Church where funeral services were held Monday, March 31, with interment at Evergreen Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Charlotte Court House United Methodist Church or the Charlotte County Rescue Squad.

The Browning Funeral Home, Keysville, served the family.
