Joseph J. Sweeney, 93 Of Richmond

RICHMOND, July 28 – Joseph James Sweeney, of Richmond, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 with many family members at his side. He was born on May 30, 1916 in Milwaukee, WI.

He proudly served his country in World War II and was awarded The Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Mr. Sweeney is survived by his wife, Pearl Sweeney of Richmond; daughters, Shirley Gibson of Richmond and Jacqueline Cosner and husband, Russell of Richmond; grandchildren, John Dagenhardt and wife, Missy of Midlothian, Traci Mir and husband, Robert of Richmond, and Shelley Justice and husband, Aaron of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Noah, Emma, and Lucy.

A viewing will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, with services to follow at 2 p.m., both at Shorter Funeral Home. Burial will take place following the service at Amelia Veterans Cemetery.

Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, is serving the family.
