Joseph Duarte, Jr., 81 Of Crewe Dies August 30

CREWE, Sept. 1 – Joseph Duarte Jr., 81, of Crewe, departed this life Sunday, August 30, 2009 in Amelia.

He was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church, the University of MA. Alumni Assoc., The National Assoc. of Animal Breeders, The National Dairy Shrine and The Virginia Assoc. for Adult and Continuing Education.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Duarte, III.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Duarte; daughter, Theresa Simpson and husband, Tim of Crewe; daughter-in-law, Joy Duarte of Crewe; grandsons, Chad Duarte and wife, Cassie of Kenbridge, Justin Duarte and wife, Nicole and Darren Simpson; great-granddaughter, Lexus P. Duarte, all of Crewe; brother, Manuel Duarte of Ghent, NY and sister, Mary O'Neil of Cape Cod, MA.

Mr. Duarte was in the bovine artificial insemination industry for 43 years in MA, CA, and VA and retired from 21st Century Genetics as regional sales manager for the southeastern U.S.

The past 14 years he has served as director of the Nottoway Co. Literacy Project.

Funeral services will be con-ducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, from the Jennings -McMillian Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Crewe Cemetery.
