NEW CANTON, June 22 -John E. “Jack” Behrend, 82, of New Canton, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at his home.

He was born October 1, 1921 in Washington, DC, a son of the late Eugene E. Behrend and Bertha Heint. He was the widower of June S. Behrend.

He is survived by his children, James E. Behrend and wife, Lee Beth of Cleveland, OH, Virginia A. Behrend of Lynchburg, Valarie B. Van Witzenburg and husband, Ronald of New Canton and Jon S. Behrend of St. Petersburg, FL. He was the loving grandfather of Julia B. Szilagyi and husband, Keith, Courtney L. Behrend, Rebecca L. Van Witzenburg, Melissa A. Van Witzenburg, Samantha L. Van Witzenburg and John S. Van Witzenburg.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.
