Harmon G. Atkinson Jr., 76 Of Cumberland Services Set Saturday

CUMBERLAND, July 10 – Harmon Gaither Atkinson Jr., 76, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in Richmond. Born October 2, 1931 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harmon G. and Virginia Thomas Atkinson. He was the husband of Margaret Ingle Atkinson.

Mr. Atkinson was a mechanic by trade. He owned and operated Cumberland Auto Service for 49 years.

He was a member of Payne Memorial Methodist Church, where currently he was serving as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a past member of the Cumberland Ruritans and the Jaycees. He loved fishing and watching his favorite driver, the late Dale Earnhardt, win races.

He is survived by his wife; children, Steven Gaither Atkinson and wife, Susan of Appomattox, Gregory Thomas Atkinson of Cumberland, and Gayle Atkinson Kukorlo and husband, Anthony of Richmond; a sister, Shirley Atkinson Walker and husband, Jim of Richmond; and grandchildren, Patrick Gaither Atkinson, Margaret Ann Atkinson, Robert Thomas Atkinson, and Laura Paige Atkinson.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at Payne Memorial Methodist Church with interment in Center Presbyterian Church in Cumberland.

Family will receive friends Friday evening 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville.
