CUMBERLAND, Sept. 16 -Gerald Edward Matney, 56, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at his home.

He was born April 22, 1948, a son of the late Estil and Pinkie Looney Matney. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Ann Matney and a son Steven Matney.

Mr. Matney was a retired electrician and coal miner.

He is survived by three sons, Timothy E. Matney and wife, Linda Wilson Matney, Gerald Matney, Jr. and wife, Cindy Matney and Dennis Wayne Matney all of Cumberland; a brother, Leon Matney of Tazewell; two sisters, Mary Lester and Callie Matney both of Tazewell; three grandchildren, Steven, Christen and Lauren Matney all of Cumberland and a close and devoted friend, Angel Compos of Cumberland.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday on Grove Cemetery, Cumberland.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville.
