Funeral Services To Be Held Thursday For Elizabeth “Bess” Biggs, 87

RIDGEWAY, Jan. 26 – Elizabeth “Bess” Biggs, 87, passed away Monday, January 25, 2010 at TLC Adult Home in Henry, VA. Born March 16, 1922 in Charlotte County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Wesley and Minnie Dodd Hamlett.
Mrs. Biggs was a graduate of Randolph Henry High School and attended business college in Lynchburg. She later moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked at the Navy Department during World War II. She retired from Prince Georges County, Maryland school system. She was a member of Kent Baptist Church in Maryland and later attended Grace Baptist Church in Ridgeway
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne Reed and Carol Biggs of Martinsville and Neal Howard and Lori Biggs of Richmond; and five grand-children, Jenny and China of Martinsville and Michael, Brandi and Cassidy of Richmond and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reed Biggs; two sisters, Grace Hamlett Holley and Alese Hamlett Estepp and two brothers, Aubrey E. Hamlett Sr. and Clifton Hamlett.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home in Martinsville with burial following in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.
The family has requested donations be made to the Salvation Army or to the Disabled American Veterans Association.
