RICE, June 29 – Christine Faye Bates Banton, 57, of Rice, died at her residence.

She was born September 21, 1946 in Prince Edward County, a daughter of the late Allie Alfred and Daisy Tatum Bates.

Mrs. Banton worked at the Crewe Garment Factory for over 18 years and retired as a store manager.

She is survived by a son, Michael Scott Banton, of Washington DC, formerly of Rice; a daughter, Alisa Jane Banton of Rice; grandchildren, Tatum Wayne and Jade Sierra Neal both of Rice; a sister, Frances Bates Bolt of Rice; nieces and nephews, Linda Bolt of Lewes, DE, Marsha Bolt of Powhatan and Lawrence Edward Bolt of Amelia; an uncle, Lewis Tatum of Keysvllle and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was held 3 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God of Prophecy in Burkeville. A private interment was held Sunday.

Shorter Funeral Home, Farmvllle, was in charge of arrangements.
