DECEMBER 1 – Charles Russell Shorter Jr., 78, of Farmville, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Farmville.

He was a 1965 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, and the owner of the Shorter Funeral Home. He was a charter member of the Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad, a member of The Independent Order of the Odd Fellows 290, Farmville, Farmville Lions Club, and Madisonville Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his sisters, Mary Shorter Lee of Farmville, Kathleen Shorter Jacobs of Appomattox, and Georgianna Shorter Covington of Pamplin; step-son, William P. Thompson II of Huntersville, NC; two step-granddaughters; two nieces; three nephews; four great-nieces; two great-nephews; two great-great nephews; and his beloved pet, Queen.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday in the chapel of Shorter Funeral Home. Entombment followed in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice.
